CHARACTER - "The combination of qualities or features that distinguishes one person from another."
I decided to venture out and try photographing people and what better place than the courtyard of the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma in Mallorca. He might have been homeless, but he didn't have a cup out like the others. But the lines of his face and his clothing caught my eye.

Old Town Albuquerque - so picturesque! Thank you for all your comments on my Hot Air Balloon Photo - who would guess!

I fell in love with this beautiful old staircase and floral mural in colorful Old Town Albuquerque. (Sorry, I don't remember where in Old Town it was. I tried Google but didn't find anything specific.)

In keeping with the red theme, this was one of my first attempts to capture a Hummingbird. Spent the weekend in San Diego last summer and had this chance encounter with a hummingbird in the Spanish Village in Balboa Park. The red background is one of the colorful doors of the Spanish Village shops.

Found a Butterfly sitting among several empty bottles of wine in a parking lot. Added a little twist and here we are.

The 'traditional' wooden-vaned windmills, some dating back to the 17th century.
Once an essential part of Mallorcan life, windmills were used to pump water and grind grain - now they are considered part of Majorca's heritage. A project has been developed on the island to restore, preserve and & protect them.

Green-crowned brilliant - a medium sized hummingbird native to Costa Rica. While the other hummingbirds were wildly visiting the feeders, this beautiful bird sat quietly in a tree while I photographed her.

Our walk to the Templo Waterfall. I began to feel that I truly was in a Rainforest! The railings are a man-made product that will not be eaten by the ants!

Mime - "The theatrical technique of suggesting action, character, or emotion without words, using only gesture, expression, and movement". Came across this amazing Mime at the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca. The first time I saw a mime like this was in Barcelona. This was the only mime we saw in Palma - they are so fun! Be sure to view larger to enjoy the entire detail of his/her costume!

All I need is someone to love me! Kilo was adopted from the pound. . .now called KiTo because that's what our granddaughter calls him. He's so lovable!

Kealia Natl Wildlife Refuge, Maui, HI. Driving from the airport to Ka'anapali Beach. A beautiful tranquil area. Thought I would mix it up from my snow in Colorado photos.

Walking along the Passeig des Born ('shopping central' in Palma known for it's up-scale shops), I spotted these colorful hats and scarves. This is the shot I got with the reflection of the street behind. Decided to go with it - I loved all the colors. What do you think?

Anna's Hummingbird - at our backyard feeder. 5-19-13
We call our back courtyard the hummingbird highway. These beautiful little creatures flit from one yard to another chattering & moving at the speed of light! I have made numerous attempts to capture one at our feeder and finally today I met with success!
I actually hid under our grapefruit tree with tripod and a cloth over my head and the camera. It was pretty shady so I put on the fill flash but it actually had to flash through the cloth. The noise of the camera and flash caused the little bird to stop and look around - giving me an opportunity to catch a crisp photo. (View larger to see the beautiful detail of the red iridescent throat feathers)

The African Hawk Eagle at the Springs Preserve, Las Vegas, NV
I am lucky enough to have family live in Las Vegas so I am there a lot. There is so much more to Las Vegas than just The Strip! This beautiful bird, for example.

Another of the beautiful hummingbirds at the LaPaz Waterfall Gardens. This bird, much smaller in size, is the Green Thorntail. Still a larger hummingbird than I have seen in AZ. View larger size to see the unique feather structure - looks like tiny seashells. I love hummingbirds!

To Byron...of course I took photos of the beautiful walkway...with the ocean in the background! Kealia Natl Wildlife Refuge, Maui, HI. I will have to post more photos of our trip - March 2012 our anniversary holiday.

The Keel billed Toucan - also native to Costa Rica. Always reminds me of the "Fruit Loops" Toucan! So colorful and a very social bird! Enlarge for some beautiful detail.

Nakalele Blow Hole - Located at the most northern point Maui, HI. The surf was high and the geyser effects were amazing! Beware of getting to close - you can get sucked back into the hole by the retreating water.

My neighbor has beautiful flowers on her back patio. So I took this photo over the wall - it was so lovely blooming there.

Inner Courtyard of the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma de Mallorca. I fell in love with the gates, sunlight and shadows. Took many photos from different angles - but this is my favorite.
